The couples who come to us most often have a brief that looks something like this: beach, mountains, city, and countryside. Active but not rushed. Food and culture at the centre of it. Wellness built in rather than tacked on. And somewhere in the mix, the kind of coast that doesn't need to be photographed to be worth staying at.
This itinerary is our answer to that brief. Three separate journeys, each a complete route through a different combination of the archipelago's best. Within each journey, three tiers show how the same route deepens as accommodation and pace are elevated: more time in each place, fewer moving parts, more arranged exclusively for two. Nothing here is fixed. Pick a route, a tier, or pieces of both.
How to Read This Itinerary
Each journey below is a complete route in its own right. Journey One anchors in El Nido and the colonial north. Journey Two swaps El Nido for Coron and adds the Visayas. Journey Three does all of it in one longer trip for couples with three full weeks and no urgency to be anywhere.
Within each journey, the three tiers are named Refined (boutique 4-star, efficient pacing), Elevated (5-star and villa-tier, two extra rest days built in), and Sovereign (ultra-luxury throughout, villa buyouts, private chef on staff, the slowest and most unhurried version of each route). The destinations and day-by-day shape are the same at every tier. What changes is the accommodation, the pace, and the level of service arranged around you.
El Nido's Big Lagoon, Bacuit Bay. Still water, limestone walls on all sides, almost no one before 9am.
Journey One: El Nido and the North
Manila → Farm at San Benito → El Nido → Vigan and Ilocos → Manila
13 to 17 days · 2 transfers total · Refined / Elevated / Sovereign
This is the most restful of the three routes. Fewer transfers, longer stays, and a rhythm built entirely around rest, food, and walking rather than logistics. It trades constant movement for depth: a wellness reset inland, one long stay on the water at Seda Lio in El Nido, and a slower final week in Vigan's Spanish colonial north.
Manila: Arrival and the First Evening
A private airport meet-and-greet on arrival means no queuing. That afternoon, a private guide walks you through Intramuros, the old walled city: cobblestone streets, Spanish-era churches, and the bastion walls, timed for late day once the crowds have thinned. From there, a short crossing into Binondo, the world's oldest Chinatown, for a walking food trail through its side streets. Century-old dumpling houses, fresh lumpia, and the noodle shops that have fed the district for generations.
South to the Farm
A two-hour private drive south into Batangas. The city drops away into coconut groves and volcano views. Arrival at The Farm at San Benito in Lipa in time for a late lunch from their organic garden kitchen. The Refined tier books a wellness suite; the Elevated tier upgrades to a deluxe pool villa; the Sovereign tier takes the top-tier private villa with a dedicated butler. All three arrive at the same property, the same forest trail in the morning, the same table.
Two days at the Farm are built around its own rhythm. A guided forest trail on the lower slopes of Mt. Malarayat in the cool of the morning, hydrotherapy and native massage in the afternoon, plant-based tasting menus built from what was picked that morning. One day crosses north into Tagaytay, forty minutes away, for the overlook across Taal Lake and its volcano island rising out of the water, with dinner that evening at Balay Dako. The Elevated and Sovereign tiers add a third day purely as a rest buffer ahead of the coastal stretch to come.
North to the Lagoon Coast
A private transfer to Manila's domestic terminal, then a direct flight to El Nido on the calmest scheduled departure of the day. A private transfer delivers you to Seda Lio by early afternoon, with the rest of the day entirely open.
El Nido in this itinerary has no fixed programme. Lio Beach itself is calm and shallow, good for slow mornings. Bacuit Bay has more calm, sheltered islands than most guests ever see, and on the two or three mornings you choose, a private outrigger reaches any combination of them. The Big and Small Lagoons and the Secret Lagoon for flat, glass-still water with mild snorkelling over the reef edges. Shimizu Island for one of the bay's best coral gardens in shallow, protected water. Star Beach and Helicopter Island for wide sweeps of sand. Matinloc Shrine and Hidden Beach for a quieter, more scenic run further south.
The rest of the days are yours. Long mornings on the beach. The Lio Estate's small design district for coffee and browsing. Dinners rotating between the resort's own kitchen and private chef set-ups on the sand. The Refined tier runs 5 nights in El Nido; the Elevated tier 6; the Sovereign tier 7, with a private chef on staff for the full stay.
The Elevated and Sovereign tiers also carry an optional extension: two or three nights in Port Barton, a two-and-a-half-hour private transfer south of El Nido. Undeveloped, quiet, closer to what El Nido looked like twenty years ago. Its own calm islands, almost no other boats. Worth considering if you want a second coastal base with a completely different feel.
North to Vigan
Morning flight back to Manila, connecting same-day to a short flight north to Laoag, then a 40-minute private transfer into Vigan. Afternoon arrival in the UNESCO heritage quarter.
Two days in Vigan are built around morning walks through Calle Crisologo before the day-trippers arrive, a kalesa ride through the old quarter, and a full afternoon food tour: Vigan longganisa, bagnet, empanada at the stall your guide has used for fifteen years. One day extends into the Ilocos countryside: the Kapurpurawan rock formations, Paoay's colonial church, and a short flat hike up to the Bantay Bell Tower viewpoint for sunset over the plain. The Elevated tier adds a private cooking class with a local family as standard. The Sovereign tier adds a second full day in Vigan with a genuinely open rest morning before departure.
Kayangan Lake, Coron Island. Freshwater, enclosed by limestone, completely still in the early morning.
Journey Two: Coron and the Visayas
Manila → Farm at San Benito → Coron → Bohol and Cebu → Manila
16 to 20 days · 3 transfers total · Refined / Elevated / Sovereign
Coron trades El Nido's open-water drama for something calmer and more comfortable. Its signature experiences are inland lakes and sheltered bays rather than long open-sea crossings, and the town itself has a quieter, less trafficked feel. This route pairs Coron with Bohol and Cebu, adding hills, hiking, and one of the country's strongest food cities for the mountains-and-city half of the brief that Journey One leaves lighter.
Manila and The Farm at San Benito open this journey the same way: the Binondo food trail on arrival night, the two-to-four-day wellness reset at the Farm depending on tier, the Tagaytay day for the Taal overlook and dinner at Balay Dako. Journey Two is identical to Journey One up to the point of departure from Manila's domestic terminal.
West to Busuanga
A direct flight from Manila to Busuanga on a full-size turboprop: the more comfortable aircraft on this route compared with El Nido's smaller planes, and noticeably steadier. Private transfer into Coron on arrival.
Coron: Lakes Before the Sea
Coron's signature experience is Kayangan Lake: flat, sheltered, freshwater, no swell, reached by a short private outrigger ride across calm harbour water. The neighbouring Twin Lagoon, split by a limestone wall you can swim or paddle through at low tide, is calm enough to pair with it on the same morning. One morning, a moderate hike up Mt. Tapyas for sunset views over the town and harbour, well within an easygoing pace.
The rest of the days in Coron are open, with a wider run of calm islands to choose from as the mood strikes. The wide, shallow reef at Siete Pecados for the mildest snorkelling in the area. The white sand at CYC and Banol Beach. Malcapuya and Bulog Dos further out for a full day of quiet, protected water and almost no other boats. The Refined tier runs 4 nights in Coron; the Elevated tier 5; the Sovereign tier 7, with a private chef on staff throughout and a full-day private island buyout available.
South to Bohol and Cebu
Private transfer to Busuanga airport, connecting via Manila or Cebu to Tagbilaran. Private transfer to a resort in Panglao, Bohol on arrival.
"Cebu is the strongest single food day of any of these journeys. Keep the Bohol-to-Cebu day light on sightseeing and heavy on eating."
The Bohol days open with an early departure to beat the crowds at the Chocolate Hills viewpoint, followed by a gentle countryside walk through the surrounding farmland and a slow lunch cruise on the Loboc River. Calm, flat water throughout. A day trip crosses to Cebu City for its food scene: lechon at the source, a street food crawl through Carbon Market with a guide who knows which stalls matter, and a heritage walk through the old Spanish quarter. The Elevated tier adds a private guided cooking class in Cebu. The Sovereign tier adds a chef-led tasting dinner with one of the city's leading chefs.
The Refined tier closes with two final beach days in Panglao with nothing scheduled. The Elevated and Sovereign tiers add one and two additional unstructured days respectively before the departure transfer to Manila.
Palawan. Both ends of it, in one trip, without rushing either.
Journey Three: The Grand Archipelago
Manila → Farm at San Benito → El Nido → Coron → Bohol and Cebu → Manila
19 to 23 days · 4 transfers total · Refined / Elevated / Sovereign
For a couple with three full weeks and no urgency to be anywhere, this is the complete answer: both Palawan bases rather than a choice between them, plus the northern Farm and the Bohol-Cebu leg. It is the longest and most varied of the three routes, combining El Nido's lagoons, Coron's lakes, and the full mountains-city-countryside arc all in one trip, while keeping the same unhurried, rest-first pacing throughout.
Manila and the Farm open as in both other journeys. The Refined tier takes two days at the Farm before flying to El Nido; the Elevated tier takes four days; the Sovereign tier takes four days including two completely programme-free.
El Nido, Then Direct to Coron
This is the routing detail that makes Journey Three work. Rather than backtracking through Manila between El Nido and Coron, a direct commercial flight on a full-size turboprop connects them in one step. One fewer transfer than going back through the capital, and the more comfortable aircraft for the crossing.
El Nido runs three nights at the Refined tier, four at the Elevated (with a private chef on-call), and five at the Sovereign (with a private chef on staff throughout). The same calm-island outings as Journey One apply here, drawn from the full run of Bacuit Bay. The optional Port Barton extension is available at the Elevated and Sovereign tiers before the flight across to Coron.
Coron runs three nights at the Refined tier, five at the Elevated, and five at the Sovereign with a full-day private island buyout available. Kayangan Lake, Twin Lagoon, the Mt. Tapyas hike, and the full run of calm islands as in Journey Two.
South to Bohol and Cebu, and the Close
The Bohol and Cebu leg is identical to Journey Two in structure and shape across all three tiers. What the Sovereign tier adds in Journey Three specifically is a private chef-led tasting dinner in Cebu with one of the city's leading chefs, and two full rest days built in before the international departure, making it the longest and slowest close of any of the nine itineraries in this set.
